Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa, who is also the Minister for Foreign Affairs, said the cancellation of Nepal’s President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s scheduled India visit and recall of Ambassador to India, Deep Kumar Upadhyay, were not related to each other.“Upadhyaya was informed of two decisions at once,” he said, “Thus, it is not true that he was recalled due to his response in the decision about cancellation of the visit.”There are different ground realities behind both incidents, he clarified. Thapa categorically pointed out four main reasons – recent political developments in the nation, President Bhandari’s scheduled engagement in the nation to present the government policy and programme at the House, lack of preparations and a natural disaster in Ujjain of India – behind cancellation of the visit.“The government has informed India to postpone the visit for now,” he said, “We have informed that the President will pay a visit at an appropriate time to be fixed diplomatically.” Likewise, Thapa informed the government had decided to recall Nepali Ambassador to India Upadhyay from New Delhi to strengthen ties with the southern neighbour. He was of the view that the decision was taken notwithstanding his political background.
