The words seem distant to Geena George.The Bengali and Hindi words she spoke as a child, before she moved from India with her family at age 5, have faded from her memory. When she watches Hindi movies these days, she cannot understand them.“It’s my culture, and I used to know it very well,” said the 17-year-old junior at Elkhorn High School. “Everyone here spoke English. No one spoke Hindi or Bengali, so I kind of had to speak English just to fit in, I guess.”As she grows older, she finds herself wishing she could remember. She finds she’s grateful for the parts of her heritage she knows well.
