Prime Minister KP Oli has raised concern over the delay in finalising the parliamentary regulations by the Regulation Drafting Committee (RDC) of Parliament. In his meeting with speaker Onsari Gharti Magar on Thursday, PM Oli said that the delay has resulted in halt to various government appointments and has also sent a negative message about parliamentary practice. He told Gharti that his party, CPN-UML, is ready to adopt alternatives in order to narrow down the differences and pave the way for the draft to be finalised. “PM said that his party is ready to take necessary initiatives for resolving contention in the draft so that the parliamentary regulations could be immediately finalised,” said PM’s press advisor Pramod Dahal.Speaker Gharti is scheduled to meet major opposition party Nepali Congress President Sher Bhadur Deuba on Friday. The 61-member Drafting Committee is facing a hard time finalising the draft in the wake of differences between ruling and opposition parties. A total of 75 proposals have been registered seeking amendments to various provisions. The most contentious issue is the strength of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC). The Legislature-Parliament has been functioning under an interim regulation since the adoption of the new constitution due to the dispute among the major parties.
