Mr Surya Kiran Gurung is a senior lawyer based in Kathmandu. He has double LLM degrees from Patna University in India and the University of Atlanta in Canada specializing on international law. He is a member of Kathmandu University School of Law Planning Advisory Committee since July 14, 2013. While practicing as a lawyer, Gurung was appointed as the Secretary of the House of Representatives of Nepal's Parliament in 1992. He worked in that capacity till 2003. He also worked there as the Secretary General of the Parliament till 2007. There upon he was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation (November 2007 � February 2012). Upon his return, Gurung is again in the law profession. Gurung was actively engaged in the implementation of the House of Representatives Declaration 2007, by assisting the various Special Committees established for that purpose. He was also engaged in the drafting and law making process of the Parliament of Nepal and the Parliamentary Committees of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly as Secretary General of the Parliament of Nepal. He is one of the very renowned expert of law and parliamentary practice in Nepal.
